The burned tokens came from EdgeX’s buyback program. The exchange used its own funds to purchase EDGE from the open market. Then it sent those tokens to a burn address. No one can ever recover or use them again.
Daily Burns Will Continue
EdgeX will repeat this process every 24 hours. The exchange commits to burning newly acquired EDGE tokens each day. This creates a regular deflationary cycle for the token supply.
EdgeX also publishes all transaction hashes on-chain. Anyone can verify the burns independently. This transparency helps build trust with the community.
Why Burn Tokens?
Token burning reduces the circulating supply of a cryptocurrency. Lower supply with steady or rising demand can push prices higher over time. Many exchanges use this strategy to reward long-term holders.
Binance pioneered this approach with its BNB token. EdgeX now follows a similar path but with a faster daily schedule.
Market Impact
The first burn removed over 2.5 million EDGE from circulation. Regular daily burns will increase the total removed amount over time. Investors should watch the cumulative effect rather than single events.
The success of this program depends on EdgeX’s ability to generate consistent buyback funds. Sustainable revenue sources are key for long-term viability.
Risks to Consider
Buyback programs can consume funds that projects need for development. EdgeX must balance token burns with investments in growth and marketing.
Market conditions also matter. In a bear market, even aggressive burns may not prevent price declines. In a bull market, burns can amplify upward moves.
Investors should research the project thoroughly before making any decisions. The burn mechanism alone does not guarantee returns.
